Widespread effects of internet racism
Hundreds of years ago, this country was founded on the principle of the Natural Rights of Man. "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" was a line written into our Declaration of Independence. It is a line that has many different interpretations and it may not mean back then what it means back then. However, that sentence was written about the Natural Rights that any man is entitled to. Over the years our definition of man has changed and therefore the interpretation of this quote has changed. In this day and age in which we consider all humans of all races, ethnicities, and genders equal. On the surface, many people agree with this notion, yet we still face discrimination in our daily lives, albeit less than it was one hundred years ago. Whites have held a dominant position in America for the past two centuries, but as the power slowly shifts it results in negative thoughts, but who really suffers?
The racial tendencies of a wealthy business owner are passed on to their sons and the tendencies of a bitter, black man are as well. The two sons will grow up hating one another, but never truly know the reason why. To this day, there is no one definitive cause of the racism that exists in today's society, but continued hate will only serve to further divide us as citizens and fellow human beings. Racism is widespread and deep-seeded in our world and only leads to more despair and anguish.
The Internet is just a new medium in which discrimination can further spread, but it is also a medium in which positive messages and important information can be transmitted, which is more beneficial to our society?
